Leigh Harrison

Voice Instructor

Leigh moved to Prescott from New York City, has performed leading roles in opera and musical theatre in the U.S. and Europe for more than 25 years, and has taught voice privately and conducted master classes for the past 15 years. Her students have ranged in age from 6 to 68 years.

For four years she was voice instructor at the prestigious Akademie voor Kleinkunst (national musical theatre conservatory) in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and the Amsterdamse Balletakademie, a school very much like APA, with accelerated classes in dance, voice, acting, and various entertainment arts.

Leigh has performed leading roles in opera (including Madama Butterfly, La Traviata, Lucia di Lammermoor, Cosi Fan Tutte, Die Zauberflöte, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, La Boheme, La Cenerentola) and oratorio (Bach, Handel, Fauré, Mahler, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Honegger) for American companies, including Chattanooga Opera Company, Virginia Opera Theater, Knoxville Opera Association, Chattanooga Symphony, Phoenix Symphony, and Knoxville Symphony.

For ten years Leigh performed hundreds of concerts as soprano soloist in the Opera Trio and Classical Quintet aboard Cunard Lines' M.S. Vistafjord and M.S. Sagafjord. Her love of travel is second only to music, and she's thrilled to have visited more than 60 countries.

Leigh's method of teaching is completely tailored to the individual-each singer is unique. All styles of music can be studied (Leigh also regularly performs jazz standards of the 20's, 30's and 40's!), and knowledge of how the voice and body work enable the singer to communicate through the music, as well as to make a beautiful sound.

Locally, Leigh is soloist at the Prescott Church of Christ, Scientist, and is very glad to be returning to the staff of APA!
